Fourth Annual Wine Tasting at grapestompers.com

grapestompers.com held its fourth annual wine tasting event at the Burgiss Barn in Laurel Springs, NC on Sunday, October 7, 2001.

The event was attended by more than 200 people, and offered tastes of nearly 40 varieties of wine. Live mountain music was provided by Wayne Henderson and Helen White, and a delightful dinner of barbecued pork and roast beef was catered by Jimmy Benge of Jiff Catering for all participants.

grapestompers.com would like to thank Keith Bumgarner of Greensboro, NC for taking the photos during the wine tasting.

Picture of Tom opening another bottle of wine

Wine tasters enjoyed sampling over 40 varieties of wine. The majority of wines served were made from the kits sold by grapestompers.com, but lots of local vintners shared their homemade wines as well. The wine must have tasted good, for it nearly all disappeared!

The homemade dandelion wine didn't last 15 minutes before it was gone, which made lots of folks envious of the lucky samplers.

This photo shows Crazy Tom opening wine bottles as fast as he can. Notice the intense concentration!

Virginia Van Hampton answers a question about her wine

One of the advantages of a wine tasting is the ability to sample several different wines to "zero in" on your favorite variety.

It's a great way to try out new types of wine in an inexpensive manner (our annual wine tastings are FREE - you just have to bring your own wine glass); before you know it, you'll become familiar with the wide range of sweet and dry red, blush, and white wines. Of course, some folks enjoyed them all!

In this photo, local winemaker Virginia Van Hampton offers some tasting hints to visitors at her tasting table.

Everyone was eager to try out the newest kit wines for 2001.

The Ice Wine was really popular!

Wayne Henderson and Helen White

Everyone enjoyed the musical talents of this duo. Wayne Henderson (left) and Helen White (right) entertained the guests at the wine tasting with some great guitar and banjo pickin'.

Wayne has performed at Carneigie Hall and makes custom instruments by hand.
