Sixth Annual Wine Tasting at grapestompers.com

grapestompers.com headquartersgrapestompers.com held its sixth annual wine tasting event at the Burgiss Barn in Laurel Springs, NC on Sunday, October 5, 2003.

The event was attended by several people, and offered tastes of over 20 varieties of wine. Live mountain music was provided by Alfred Michaels, and a delightful dinner of barbecued pork and roast beef was catered by Jimmy Benge of Jiff Catering for all participants.

grapestompers.com would like to thank Monty Combs for taking the photos during the wine tasting.

You can scroll down the page to see all the pictures from our wine tasting, or simply make your pick from the list below:

Rag Apple Lassie Winery sharing their wines

Wine tasters enjoyed sampling over 20 varieties of wine. The majority of wines served were made from the kits sold by grapestompers.com, but another winery - Rag Apple Lassie - joined us for the event! In this photo, you can see Walt and Sara McMillan pouring Chardonnay for a wine taster. Yum!

John Brady with handmade wooden crafts

While enjoying the wine and food, the crowd was treated to the craft talents of John Brady, a local woodworker.

The handmade Lazy Susans and trivets look like they would come in handy and enhance anyone's kitchen.

Neat stuff, John!

Tom Burgiss offering de-magnetized wine

In this photo, Tom has challenged a taster to compare the taste of a young red wine before and after the application of a "Magic Magnet" coaster, which softens the tannins of a tart red wine in only a few minutes.

Everyone was amazed at the difference... "Vive la magnet!"

Candy Porter serving wine

We set up four different tables at this year's wine tasting:

  • Dry Reds
  • Dry Whites
  • Sweet Wines
  • White Zin "doctoring" table

This photo shows Candy Porter pouring wine for Adam, the official chef of Thistle Meadow Winery.

How do you say "great wine" in Korean?

Folks came from all over the world - literally - to enjoy the wine served during our 6th annual wine tasting.

In this picture, Brant is serving wine to a young couple from South Korea. These folks must have liked it... they bought 4 bottles before catching the plane home!

Tom Burgiss welcomes everyone

Always ready with a gift of gab, Tom emcees the opening ceremony.

Joining him is a volunteer (or should we say victim??) from the audience. Boy, is she brave!

She'll know better next year!

Jeff tells Tom he only has 3 bottles remaining

Of course, it wouldn't be a normal wine tasting if everything went smoothly... what fun would that be?

In this photo, Jeff is telling Tom that we only have three more bottles of wine left at the table... should he get another case??

Tom, we only have three bottles left!
